APPLICATION OF THE THINK PAIR SHARE LEARNING MODEL TO IMPROVE STUDENTS' MATHEMATICAL COMMUNICATION ABILITY

Abstract

This research in purposed to determine the difference in improving mathematical communication skills between students who receive the Think Pair Share (TPS) learning model and students who receive conventinal learning model. Beside that, the students’ responses to the application of the TPS  learning model were also analyse. The method used in this research is the quasi-experimental method with The Nonequivalent Pretest-Posttest Control Group Design research design. The population in this reseach were all the students of class XI IPS, taking samples used Purposive Sampling technique which is class XI IPS 2 choosen as experimental class and XI IPS 3 as class control. Test instrument are used to measure students’ mathematical communication skills, while non-test instruments are used to determine student responses to application of the TPS  learning model. Based on research result, it shows that (1) the increase in mathematical communication skill of students who receive the TPS  learning model is significantly higher than students who receive the conventional learning model; (2) Positive response to the implementation of the TPS learning model.
